History of BloodFire Studios The name BloodFire Studios was inspired by the Type
O Negative song "Blood and Fire" and from their "Bloody Kisses" LP. ----
"...I'd rather be alone. In 1996, the world was a very different place. The millennium, or the end of time as it came to be know, was just around the corner. After 27 years, Betty Rubble debuts as a Flintstone vitamin, Miami Dolphin coach Don Shula announces his retirement, Blizzard buries eastern U.S. causing at least 50 deaths, France performs nuclear test at Muruora Island, Howard Stern Radio Show premieres in York Pennsylvania, and O. J. Simpson appears on British TV discussing his not guilty verdict. What was the world coming to? When would the madness end? What would Y2K be like? Who would save us? “Who would save us?” That question would be answered deep in the Nevada Desert in a dark corner known only as “Las Vegas”. Dennis Greenhill and Lee Kohse, with the help of a whole lot of Caffeine and a whole lot of no sleep, laid the groundwork for the stories "Dark Tarot" and "Dragoons", and began an epic journey to save the world one comic book story at a time. Call it delusions of grandeur, call it a caffeine overdose, call it a transcendental hiccup, but these two thought they were on to something. Only history would judge. 1997 was a frustrating year for our heroes when they offered up their souls in the form of several stories to their then publisher only to be rejected with the comment “If you every want to see your stories printed, you will have to do it yourselves”. And so, on the threshold of the end of days and with their tails between their legs, Dennis and Lee left. The winds blew fierce out of the Northeast as a blinding snow fall caused the worst Whiteout in the San Diego history. With a glint in their eye, our intrepid heroes stoked the fires of hope and gave rise to BloodFire Studios, a stronghold of cutting edge creativity in a vast sea of mediocrity. And so, the saga began. In 1999, BloodFire Studios released their first book, Dark
Tarot, over the internet. In July of that same year, BloodFire Studios made
it's first leap into the fires of comicbookdom by purchasing a booth
at the San Diego Comic Con. With nothing more then a preview book of Dark Tarot,
some low budget tee shirts and a hand painted backdrop, a seed was planted.
Over the next few years, Dark Tarot saw a transformation into a full story. It met with just enough success to float the company into the following year. The company mantra at that time was
"Make Back Booth". And so it went, right up until the time that a bunch of little goth kids waltzed onto the scene. Enter- stage right--- Kindergoth. |
